FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Do I need a referral from my doctor to make an appointment?

No. You do not need a referral to see a Calgary psychologist in private practice.  You are welcome to contact us directly at (403) 768-2208.  We do, however, welcome referrals from school teachers, principals, other psychologists, family physicians or paediatricians.

2. Are Psychologist Visits Covered By Alberta Health Care?

Psychologist visits are not currently covered under Alberta Health Care. However, most extended health benefit plans will cover, in whole or in part, the fees for private psychological services.  Please also note that fees for psychological services may be claimed under tax deductible health care expenses on your income tax return.

3. How should I prepare my child for testing?

If a psychological assessment is to be completed there are a few things you and your child can do to prepare. Please bring report cards, any previous assessments, and other supporting documents you think would be helpful for the assessment. Otherwise, ensure that they are well-rested the day before testing, have had a good meal beforehand, and have taken any required medications.
