Social Emotional Assessments Calgary

Our social-emotional assessments help individuals better understand mood, anxiety, attention, and behavioural concerns that may be affecting daily life.

Understanding what’s beneath the surface.

A Social-Emotional Assessment helps provide a clearer understanding of social-emotional, behavioural, and interpersonal functioning. It may be recommended when a child, teen, or adult is experiencing concerns such as persistent worries, low mood, inattention, emotional overwhelm, or behavioural difficulties that may be impacting day-to-day functioning. These assessments do not include formal testing of cognitive or academic abilities.

A Social-Emotional assessment includes the following components:

  • Intake/clinical interview(s)
  • Review of relevant documentation (i.e., such as report cards or prior evaluations, if applicable)
  • Rating scales to better understand symptoms and functioning across settings
  • Feedback meeting
  • Detailed written report
  • Personalized recommendations and accommodations to support functioning at home, school, work, and in daily life

*The cost of a complete Social-Emotional assessment is $1,527.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a social-emotional assessment and what does it involve?

A Social-Emotional Assessment helps clarify concerns related to mood, anxiety, attention, behaviour, and overall well-being. These assessments can explore concerns such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other social-emotional or behavioural difficulties, without including formal cognitive or academic testing.

The assessment may include clinical interviews, standardized rating scales, and information from different sources, such as parents or teachers when applicable. This helps provide a fuller picture of the individual’s functioning across settings, such as home, school, work, and daily life.

Social-emotional assessments are appropriate for children, teens, and adults. They are often recommended when there are concerns related to mood, anxiety, attention, behaviour, and when further clarity is needed around what may be contributing to these challenges. Unlike psychoeducational assessments, these assessments do not include formal cognitive or academic achievement testing.

You’ll receive a comprehensive written report outlining the findings, what they mean, and specific recommendations tailored to your situation. These might include individual counselling, school-based supports, strategies for home, referrals to other providers, or a combination.
